Employment

Examples of How We Can Help You

In Canada, the unemployment rate for people with disabilities is said to range from 50% to 80%. Sadly, many people with disabilities who can and want to work have to face a work life that brings them a lack of sustainable income because of underemployment, unemployment, short-term employment (contract work), and part time employment (for those who wanted full time).

In addition, another interesting Canadian statistic found that for every 10 jobs that the average able-bodied person applies to, they get 1 interview. However, job seekers with disabilities would have to apply to 100 in order to get even 1 interview.

One would assume that such high unemployment is attributable to lack of skills, training, and experience. In many cases this is true, however, joining the ranks of job seekers with disabilities is a growing number of skilled and experienced professionals and trades people with disabilities who are finding it difficult to find sustainable employability - including those in careers that are suppose to be facing skill shortages.

Misconceptions, prejudice, and fear of the unknown from employers may be the greatest barrier facing people with disabilities in finding sustainable, rewarding employment in the long term.
