Assistive/Adaptive Technology and Accommodation

Examples of How We Can Help You

Everyone knows that you cannot make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. However, when it comes to the journey in obtaining the right assistive/adaptive technology and accommodation, it certainly feels like you are trying to do this.

Assistive devices and accommodation should be seen like customized medical prescriptions. One hopes a doctor prescribes remedies that are right for the individual rather than immediately going for 'one size fits all' solutions that often do not work.

For example, when it comes to computer alternative (assistive) input devices or software programs, an individual's preferences, interests (i.e.: music, art, learning, employment), needs and capabilities are important factors in determining which input device(s) and software program(s) best suits that person. Furthermore, proper training to use an assistive input device is as important in determining its success, as is the compatibility of the device to software programs.

Groups labeled 'disabled' are enormous in their size and diversity. Loose categories of disabilities can be defined, but the bottom line is that each individual has a special and precise need.

Compass Diversity knows that assistive/adaptive technology and accommodation must work hand in hand with the end users with disabilities. That it must meet a need(s) and be practical and useful.

There is a maze of information regarding the above, and Compass Diversity will you find your way out of it.

Examples of How We Can Help You

Needs Assessment and Customized Solutions

Compass Diversity offers needs assessments for staff, clients, and customers with disabilities and customized solutions that will meet your needs and requirements.

We work one on one with you to ensure that a solution is presented that fully and effectively meets the needs of the individual(s) who will be using it.

Information Search

Coupled with our background and our contacts within the assistive device and accommodation fields, Compass Diversity can provide you with the latest trends and products that will be most suitable for your staff, customers, or clients with disabilities. Instead of only being given a limited range of choices, we can offer you a wider range of possibilities in finding the best solutions.

Training and Support

Compass Diversity can assist in ensuring that once the assistive/adaptive technology and/or accommodation are in place that they are actually used and are useful by offering ongoing training and support.

Furthermore, this method of providing follow-up is our means to provide quality control. The effectiveness of assistive technology and accommodations have to be evaluated regularly. If we see what works and does not work in your workplace reality, we can better serve you.

Collaboration

Like to try new things out? Like to collaborate with others?

We can help you access possible opportunities to be the first on the block to implement new assistive/adaptive technologies that are being used elsewhere and/or explore the opportunities to put a new technology to the test on behalf of a business, nonprofit, or developer.

Presentations

We can provide you with tailored presentations regarding assistive/adaptive technology and/or accommodation that are designed to meet your specific needs.

Referrals

As we had said earlier, the range of disabilities are enormous in their size and diversity. If the need arises, we can refer you to experts who have a special service niche in providing support in assistive/adaptive technology and/or accommodation for a particular disability and/or for supporting certain disabling affects from disabilities.
